Meet Dr. Lawton

Dr LawtonSeattle Breast Pathology Consultants was founded in 2008 by Dr. Thomas J. Lawton, a board-certified surgical pathologist with over a decade of experience specializing in breast pathology and breast cancer.

A graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, Dr. Lawton completed his residency and fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University. He has served on the medical school faculties at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Washington. At University of Washington, he was appointed Associate Professor and founded and directed the Breast Pathology Subspecialty Service. He has been a co-investigator on numerous breast-cancer focused research grants, and has served as the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center representative for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Committee on Breast Cancer Risk Reduction.

Dr. Lawton has authored more than 30 journal articles and textbook chapters, and is the author of Cambridge University Press' Breast (Illustrated Surgical Pathology Series). He has lectured internationally on breast cancer, including serving on an expert panel at the XXVII Brazilian Society of Pathology meeting in Buzios, Brazil this past October, and in March 2010, he will repeat his role as co-director of a short course on breast pathology at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
